A Poem of the Oilers Futility
when the Oil outshoot the opponent
but forget to bring their game face
outshooting them was a disguise anyway
if you watched the game
you probably saw how disorganized we were
and the lack of intensity in our game
cole played well
visnovsky was everywhere
but penner, moreau, souray, brodziak, gagner, all sucked
especially Moreau
wtf was wrong with him today
none of his passes went to anybody
and every time he rushed the puck he gave it away
hemsky wasn’t bad either
he shouldnt miss breakaways
Anderson gloved it
probably should’ve deked though
and Gagner, what in gods name did he do to get re-promoted
he sucked hardcore tonight
i would’ve picked both Schremp or Brule to play over him
especially Brule, a small guy who throws crushing hits
wanted speed and rush at the end of the game
Gagner is not a lot faster than Schremp
Brule is faster than Gagner
but I must say, Smid looked composed tonight
and Staios was actually steady for once
good thing Strudwick wasn’t playing
i thought gilbert looked ok
but he let a lot of guys skate by him
he’s usually a lot more physical than he was tonight
and that’s saying something, considering he’s Tom Gilbert
he joined the rush a lot too, which i like
next game the Oil will win big
to make up for this sad excuse for an NHL game
remembering to bring their game face
when the Oil outshoot their opponent
Refinery Move?
The Refinery is considering a move to Google’s Blogger.com (or Blogspot) because the Hockey community on WordPress is lacking. As pretty as WordPress’ templates are, nobody seems to visit WordPress Oiler blogs.
What do you guys think? Should I move or stay?
Hopefully, the Oilers make some of their own moves after that disgusting performance against the Wings.
Reddox scores 1st NHL Goal
The heat is on. And it is really only on Dustin Penner, because Kyle Brodziak means a lot more to this team than Jesse Boulerice does. And apparently, Liam Reddox has no trouble filling in for Dustin Penner on a line with Cogliano and Cole.
Dustin Penner will need to come out flying in the next game he plays. Which might not be for a while, at this going rate.
I expect Mathieu Garon to get the start next game to no fault of Roloson’s doing. It’s interesting that Jesse Boulerice’s first game was against the team that had him on waivers.
PB and J: Press Box and Jesse
I hope they have room for that Stanley Cup ring in the press box.
Dustin Penner is a healthy scratch for the first time in his career. Let’s see if it wakes him up for the next game.
Boulerice and Reddox (freshly recalled from Springfield) draw in.
Boulerice is an Oiler
With Steve MacIntyre out with a broken orbital bone, Steve Tambellini has claimed Jesse Boulerice off of waivers from the Colorado Avalanche.
I did a little YouTube research. Turns out he’s no Steve MacIntyre, but he can take a punch and he can throw some haymakers too. Will be interesting to see how well he fills the shoes. Couldn’t find a fight that he won, though.
Here’s a little montage of Boulerice and his work on ice: Read the rest of this entry »
JDD: Big Welcome to the NHL
This is Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers.
He has a name bigger than the jersey so they had to cut out the Drouin part. He has the size of a Burke but the flexibility of a Garon. His performance against the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils over this Remembrance Day weekend was also so big it was worth sending out a big “welcome to the NHL” to our friend Jeff Deslauries.
Good job, JDD: you were godly.
I nearly creamed my pants when he robbed the last guy on the shootout. Read the rest of this entry »
Fighting in the NHL
Stats according to Hockeyfights.com
4 of the top 6 are in the Northwest Division.
7 of the top 10 are in the Western Conference.
Interesting.
Oilers flirt with disaster; Big hit by Stuart
This kid’s a keeper. If you stick to the opposite team’s skill guys on even strength, then you won’t be burned all day as if you were playing on the PK all night. There’s a time to be aggressive – and that means whenever Malkin and Crosby are on the ice. Peckham gets it and he should play more minutes.
The Edmonton Oilers are the titanic and the captain of the ship is Craig MacTavish. And it’s like the Oilers are flirting with the iceberg as it approaches, as if the friggen thing can’t do any harm to them. But this is just the tip of the iceberg. This road trip just passed the halfway point and we’re not doing anything to improve on our 6-6-1 record. Not at this rate. We started this year 4-0 and we’re not even 0.500 anymore. Definitely the wrong direction to be heading in. This is a team that has almost all the right parts but none of the heart that saw them come within a few points of making the post season last year.
Edm @ Pit – The epic battle
Okay, maybe it’s not that epic. But it is important considering Edmonton dropped the game in Columbus last night – a game they shouldn’t have lost. On top of that, this 7-game road trip is the longest this year and is on the heels of the end of a 5 game losing streak. Can the Oilers afford to fall to 2-2 on this trip?
Here’s a preview of how I think the Oilers need to play tonight:
